Grants starting at approximately $40,000 to USA and Territories nonprofits, Indian tribes, IHEs, and state and local governments to create and implement community-based projects that utilize volunteer workers, 55 years and older. Funding is intended for volunteer programs with a focus on the following areas of interest: education, healthy futures, veterans and military families, environmental stewardship, economic opportunity, and disaster services. Applicants must identify a Primary Focus Area and work plans must include service activities in the selected Primary Focus Area.

In addition, grants will also provide support for volunteer capacity building activities provided by national service participants. These activities are indirect services that enable CNCS-supported organizations to recruit and manage community volunteers.
In addition to the Focus Areas, CNCS is particularly interested in supporting applications that propose to include one or more of the specific priorities listed below:

CNCS expects to make awards in the range of $40,000 to $470,000.
CNCS anticipates making three-year grant awards. CNCS generally makes an initial award for the first year of operation, based on a one-year project period. Continuation awards for subsequent years depend upon availability of appropriations and satisfactory performance and are not guaranteed.
