Grants to Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine artists for video and film projects. Some applicants must submit a Letter of Inquiry prior to submitting a full application. Funding is intended to support the work of individuals in the New England region to create independent documentary film and video productions.
The goal of LEF New England is to fund the work of independent documentary film and video artists in the region, and to broaden recognition and support for their work, both locally and nationally. It also supports programs that highlight the rich history and ongoing legacy of innovation within New England’s independent film community.
LEF invests in documentary film and video projects that demonstrate excellence in technique, originality of vision and voice, and creativity in form. The strongest proposals will be those that clearly articulate the ways in which the proposed project aligns with the program’s funding criteria.
Funding Criteria:
Eligibility: Projects must be long format; running times of 40 minutes or more.

For pre-production, early development, and production phases: a maximum of 6 grants will be awarded in each phase; A maximum of 4 grants will be awarded to projects in the post-production phase.
- Grants of $5,000 each will be awarded to projects in the pre-production phase.
- Grants of $2,500 each will be awarded to projects in the early development phase.
- Grants of $15,000 each will be awarded to projects in the production phase.
- Grants of $25,000 each will be awarded to projects in the post-production phase.
