Grants to Rhode Island nonprofit organizations in eligible locations for programs, projects, and capital campaigns. Funding is intended to make a positive impact on the community in four priority areas: health, education, economic development, and improving common spaces. Preference is given to proposals that demonstrate the greatest likelihood of achieving measurable results. Projects must benefit Newport County and Aquidneck Island.

The grant priority areas are intentionally designed to recognize the connections between the four different areas. Emphasis in the grant consideration process will be on the impact the proposed activities will have on one or more of these grant priority areas.
  • Strong Starts: The goal of Strong Starts is for children and youth to have a strong start in life, benefitting from a supportive community and an education that prepares them for the future. At every age children should be ready and engaged learners, supported by their family, schools, and community.
  • Healthy Lifestyles: The goal of Healthy Lifestyles is for residents to experience health throughout their lives. The community should offer access to quality health care as well as positive social and physical environments where residents can make healthy choices.
  • Community Prosperity: The goal of Community Prosperity is for regional economic growth to create opportunities for residents and enterprises. The regional economy should be home to a skilled workforce and thriving enterprises, and should continue to foster a strong sense of place.
  • Excellence in the Commons: The goal of Excellence in the Commons is for quality commons spaces and institutions to make the communities desirable places to live, work and play. The quality of landscapes and buildings should support the community's aspirations and contribute to community vitality.

Across the priority areas, the Foundation invests in design that connects the improvement of buildings and landscapes to community aspirations. The Foundation is open to innovative and collaborative approaches, encouraging proposals in the discovery, planning, and pilot stages. Additionally, the Foundation invests in strengthening organizations. Through their programming and grant-making, they seek to advance the community’s capacity for leadership and best practices needed to thrive and to sustain high-performing nonprofits.

There are two application options based on the type of request, each having different requirements: for Project/Program Support, or for New Construction, Major Renovations, Capital Campaigns. To preview these requirements and for other helpful information, see Supporting Documents below.
