Grants to USA graduate students, early-career investigators, and established investigators for research addressing mental health conditions. This program offers pilot grants in the broad areas of objectively measuring mental states, mental wellness self-management, and remotely monitoring patients. This program seeks proposals that investigate the assessment and treatment of mental health conditions, as well as mental and physiological reactions to physical health conditions.
Proposals should clearly indicate how the research project aligns with the prediction or measurement of: mental health conditions (SUD, PTSD, anxiety, autism, etc) and/or physiological reactions to various stressors. Particular interest is given to projects that address these priority areas: suicide, addiction and anxiety disorders; although research focusing on other topics are encouraged to apply.
This call for proposals is intended to:
1. Stimulate innovative research ideas among the mental health community
2. Encourage the development of early to mid-career researchers
3. Encourage future collaboration among applicants
Funding is available through the following mechanism of support:
Pilot Project Grants – to provide seed funding for research projects to help attract external support for large-scale studies. Proposals should explain clearly how the proposed project will lead to additional external funding, specifying the funding source if possible.
Proposals will be assessed against the following criteria:
-Impact: The significance of the problem, and potential for new insights into methodological, ethical, and/or policy issues in health and health services.
-Investigator(s): The qualifications of the PI and, if applicable, the background and experience of the investigator team.
-Methods: Appropriateness and methodological rigor of the scientific plan.
-Alignment: The project’s alignment with the goal and themes of this call for proposals.
-Potential: The likelihood the pilot project leads to high impact papers and grants.
All studies must use the NeuroFlow software to objectively measure and track mental/physiological states.
All investigators receiving funds must submit a final report to NeuroFlow at the end of the funding period and continue to keep NeuroFlow informed of any publication progress post-funding period. Investigators may also be requested to present their results at a research seminar supported by NeuroFlow. Investigators must acknowledge NeuroFlow support on all publications and other products of the pilot grant and send copies of all products to NeuroFlow.
Use of Grant Funds:
Funds may be used to support PI and project staff salaries and benefits, consultant fees, data management, supplies, research subject incentives and other direct expenses.
Equipment and software purchases are to be taken from the grant award.
