Grants to USA and Canada nonprofit organizations and government agencies for programs that increase access to veterinary care for underserved companion animals. Applicants must submit an LOI prior to submitting a full application. Funding is intended to increase health opportunities for under-resourced pets and their people by facilitating the delivery of accessible basic veterinary care. This category assists owned companion animals kept primarily for a person's companionship.

Under-resourced pets are those with owners whose culture, demographic, geographic or economic characteristics impede or prevent access to affordable veterinary services.

Types of care that qualify as basic veterinary care include spay/neuter, basic wellness, vaccinations, dentals, heartworm treatment and preventative, flea & tick, and basic medical procedures. For a detailed list of procedures and visits that may be considered under basic medical care, please see the FAQs:

Capital requests (defined as depreciable items like equipment or building/remodeling projects) under $250,000 may be considered in each programmatic grant program if the investment requested primarily supports that grant program criteria.

Applicants should include one or more of the following:
-Focus: Programs that have a primary focus on providing basic veterinary care
-Community: Programs that have elements of community focus and engagement
-Scalability: Programs that have scalability within the organization's community and/or nationally
-Sustainability: Programs that have other funding sources and long-term sustainability
-Data collection: Programs that are unique and innovative that have strong data collection and can build an example for other organizations
-Partnerships and collaboration: Programs that involve collaborative partnerships with other community and/or for-profit organizations
