Grant Description
Grants to Maine, Connecticut, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island nonprofit organizations for historic preservation initiatives and projects. Funding is intended for organizations whose main mission is heritage preservation, which includes activities such as saving buildings, landscapes, collections, and stories from the past until today to share with the public.

Areas of Focus:

  • Applicants should seek funding for inclusive heritage preservation projects and initiatives that advance understanding of the full story of their community’s people, places, and history.
  • Applications requesting seed money to begin a project or initiative should include a full project description, timeline, and milestones for completion of the project.
  • Consulting fees directly related to successful completion of a project or initiative are fundable.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Applications will be accepted from 501(c)3 organizations based in New England whose primary mission is heritage preservation.

The Community Preservation Grants Program is committed to supporting small to mid-size organizations. While an annual operating budget limit is not specified, funding priority will be given to organizations for which grants of this size will have impact on project success.

Ineligible
Funding will not be provided for staff salaries.

Number of Grants
In 2023, six Community Preservation Grants will be awarded to one organization in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

Estimated Size of Grant
Grants of $1,250 each will be awarded.

Term of Contract
Applicants must agree to submit a one-page project completion/project status report within one year of receiving the grant award stating the results and impact of the project.
