Grant Description
Grants of up to $50,000 to USA nonprofit organizations for initiatives to benefit the Japanese American community. Applicants are required to submit an LOI prior to submitting a full application. Funding is intended to support new projects or to enhance existing programs that focus on senior health and services, history, arts and culture, and youth.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
All grantees are required to be registered 501c3 organizations. The Foundation accepts applications from all 50 states in the United States.

Organizations that do not have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status can apply through a fiscal sponsor.

Ineligible
Please note that organizations with open grants are not eligible to submit a Letter of Inquiry until their current grant is closed.

Restrictions - The Foundation does not fund:
- Individuals
- Political parties, candidates, or partisan political organizations
- An organization’s endowment
- Labor organizations, fraternal organizations, athletic clubs, or social clubs
- K-12 schools, school districts, or school foundations
- Scholarships
- Sectarian or denominational religious organizations, except where the organization demonstrates that their programs are broadly promoted, available to anyone, and free of religious orientation
- Sports leagues or teams
- Ongoing operating costs

Pre-Application Information
Fall 2023

- LOI due – June 26, 2023
- LOI decisions – July 12, 2023
- Application (requires Foundation invitation) - Due August 7, 2023
- Grant decisions – September 22, 2023
- Grant funds distributed – Week of October 2, 2023

Process:
The grant application process has two stages. You must first submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) and then, if invited, submit a full proposal.
- Submit a letter of inquiry: June 1 to June 26, 2023
- Submit a full proposal: July 16 to August 7, 2023

Grant seekers may submit once per application cycle.

Estimated Size of Grant
JA Community Foundation grant sizes range from $2,500 to $50,000.

For multi-year grants, the total amount requested for the 1st and 2nd payment cannot exceed $50,000.

Term of Contract
Organizations may apply for one-time or multi-year grants.
